Essay / A Hidden Dedication:
On Iliazd’s Poésie de mots inconnus in the Nikolai Khardzhiev Library
On Iliazd’s Poésie de mots inconnus in the Nikolai Khardzhiev Library
A Hidden Dedication traces the history of Poésie de mots inconnus (1949), an influential anthology of avant-garde sound and visual poetry, discovered in the library of collector and scholar Nikolai Khardzhiev (1903–1996). The book was published in Paris by artist, writer, and publisher Iliazd (Ilia Zdanevich, 1894–1975). Combining archival research, object biography, and close material analysis, the essay explores how artists’ books can illuminate networks of exchange, cultural migration, and the layered histories that remain embedded in collections.

nurture in the arts is an important part of our mission. for this, we weave networks of care between artists, curators, and art collectors, caring for art from all backgrounds.
our community is not an art club, a collectors’ club, or another form of art-world exploitation. there will be no “impactful” events, masterclasses, or champagne gatherings.
instead, we are building connections and a network—a nesting ground for people in the arts who need support, guidance, and care.
in other words: community.

subscription-based art consulting
a service for aspiring collectors who want to grow a professionally curated collection in a sustainable way.
this service is for people who don’t know where to start with art collecting, or who think of this isolated world as inaccessible, overpriced, elitist, and non-transparent. instead of being discouraged from collecting art and filling a home with kitsch, we aim to help build a collection that carries meaning while supporting artists and sustaining their practices or legacies.
do you want to collect art around a particular angle? focus on lgbtq+ art, a particular geography, medium, art movement, or historical / contemporary period? we should collaborate on building and promoting such a collection.
we want to make the curatorship of private collections more accessible. the subscription is adaptable to the collector’s budget, taste, and pace of acquiring artworks, with no additional commission on acquisitions. together, we conceptualize a collection of cultural value; one that could eventually become significant not only to you, but also relevant to museums and cultural institutions.
subscription: €3,100 per month, excluding tax.
art advising
for those who need advice at a particular moment rather than ongoing support, we offer art advising on an hourly basis.
this can include discussing a work you are considering acquiring, developing an idea for your collection, researching an artist, cataloguing, preparing collection and acquisition proposals, writing descriptions, or simply figuring out where to begin.
€80 per hour, excluding tax.
research
thorough research into art is a foregrounding method and guiding principle of all our work. we focus on archival research, global perspectives in the historiography of art, and postcolonial approaches to art and artistic practices.
research, writing, and curatorial and educational projects can be commissioned around artists, artworks, archives, collections, or institutions. this can include archival research, artist and artwork research, collection research, exhibition texts, essays, curatorial concepts, and educational programming.
commissions are priced following an initial consultation.
nachtegaal cultural projects is an initiative to promote the acquiring and supporting of contemporary art and artists in a sustainable way. it is a care project that aims to build nurturing relationships between collectors, institutions, and artists. we, collectively, value connection, trust, and long-term support rather than transactional relationships.
from the founder
my name is Daria Kobzeva. I am an art historian and museum worker with five years of experience in different capacities, from archival specialist to exhibitions producer. most recently, I was an intern at the research and curatorial practice department at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, where I studied materials from Nikolai Khardzhiev’s library. I hold a research master’s degree in Art and Visual Culture from Radboud University, Nijmegen. My interests include global art histories, personal and institutional archives, migrant aesthetics, and the historical avant-garde in europe.why nachtegaal
I started nachtegaal projects inspired by my practice and wanting to influence the lives of collectors and artists for the better, on both sides, by bringing patronage, reason, soul, and friendship back together in the creation of art collections. the name nachtegaal comes from the Ukrainian [СОЛОВЕЙ], my mother’s maiden name. it represents care, guidance, nurture, and nature, but also stamina, sound, beauty, hope and unmapped migration routes. it carries a sense of our unspoiled childhoods, filled with birdsong and ideas of futures we wish for.
